On The Day Appointments

If you feel that your medical problem cannot wait for a routine appointment: telephone the Surgery as soon as possible on the day. The Surgery is open from 8am.

ALL ‘ON THE DAY’ appointments will be released in the morning for the whole day.

This means there will be no more appointments for the day once the slots are filled. Be aware that you are highly unlikely to get an appointment if you call in the afternoon.

Once the slots are full your options are:

  • Ask local pharmacist for advice
  • Ring 111
  • Book extended hours appointments if there is availability
  • Accident & Emergency, Walk In Centre or Urgent Care Centre - see NHS Choices

Advice for an On The Day Appointment: Please arrive at the Surgery no more than 15 minutes before the appointment time. If you are more than 10 minutes late, the Surgery may not be able to see you. Please appreciate that due to circumstances beyond our control (eg complex clinical cases) you may be seen after your appointment time. Please wait patiently and do not harass the receptionist, unless there is a significant deterioration in your condition.

Routine Appointments

For routine appointments the most convenient method is to book online. You will need to register for this service at the practice and use the app eg Patient Access or myGP. Alternatively call 0208 888 3021 after 11am.

Patients are responsible for keeping their appointments. Please be prompt.We recommend arriving no more than 15 minutes before the appointment. If you arrive more than 10 minutes after your appointment time, the Surgery may not be able to see you. Please note that due to complexity of cases, the practitioner may not be able to see you at the appointment time. Please be patient and do not harrass the reception team.

You may choose to see any of the practitioners in the practice, regardless of who you are registered with. 

An appointment is for one person only. If more than one member of your family needs a consultation – even for an identical condition – please tell the receptionist so that individual appointments can be made.

Weekend & Late Evening Appointments

Westbury Medical Centre is part of the Pan Haringey Federation (Federated4Health), which provides pre-booked appointments at hubs situated throughout Haringey. There are 4 hubs, which are as follows: Somerset Gardens Health Centre, Bounds Green Group Practice, Tynemouth Medical Practice and Queenswood Medical Practice. There is also availability Monday to Friday evenings from 6.30 to 8.00 pm at Somerset Gardens. You can book an appointment by calling the Surgery (Westbury Medical Centre) and if there is availability, we will book you at one of the 4 hubs.

General Information

An Appointment is for One Condition Only. Please do not come with a list of matters to discuss. If you need to talk to the doctor or nurse about more than one thing, please tell the receptionist so that extra appointments can be booked.

We ask you to help us in the above ways so that we are better able to keep to appointment times and keep delays to a minimum for patients in the waiting room.

Delays due to emergencies will be notified to patients waiting.

Appointments can be booked well in advance and we encourage patients to plan ahead for routine matters. We will always endeavour to let you book an appointment with the doctor of your choice at a time that suits you best. This is obviously not always possible especially at times of high demand (usually around the holiday periods) and when doctors are on holiday. We are constantly reviewing the appointment system to offer a range of availability.

Free Text Reminders

This service reminds you of an appointment via a text message. All registered patients are automatically opted into the service.

Please ensure if you wish to use this service we have your correct mobile telephone number and inform us as soon as possible if your number changes.

If you do not wish to subscribe please contact the surgery and inform reception that you wish to opt out.


If you anticipate that you may require an examination by the Doctor and feel that you would like a chaperone to be present, please make reception aware at the time of booking your appointment so that this can be arranged. Alternatively bring along a member of your family or friend to your appointment.

Cancelling an Appointment

If you are unable to attend for your appointment please tell us in good time so that we are able to offer another patient the use of that appointment.

You can use one of the following methods:

  1. Cancel Online using Patient Access:

  2. By Telephone: Please call us on 020 8888 3021.
  3. By Text: If you receive a text reminder and cannot attend the appointment please text back 'cancel'.
  4. By Fax: Please send us a fax on 020 8888 6898.
  5. In Person: Call into your surgery and let the receptionist know in person.

If we have enough notice we can offer your appointment to someone else and therefore help to reduce waiting times.

As part of our commitment to all our patients we monitor the efficient use of appointments. If a patient regularly fails to attend a booked appointment, the practice reserves the right to remove them and their family from the practice list.
